Summer 2021 Plumbing Tips
Here comes vacation – the dry heat, the outdoors, swimming, bathing, and all the fun things are here.
However exciting that sounds, you can’t ignore that there is a significant increase in traffic when everybody’s home. There will be more using the toilets, more washing and cleaning the dishes and clothes, more using of the water hose for filling pools, watering the plants, and sprinkling the lawn.
To avoid costly problems, Shaul’s Plumbing and Heating Ltd recommends that you regularly inspect your pipes for potential problems. Below are some summer plumbing tips to help you save time and money, and to keep your plumbing ready.
Check Your Water Heater
Save money and turn the temperature on your water heater down when you’re heading out. Check for signs of leakage, rust or other issues in the water heater. Check at the hardware and other parts, to see if corrosion occurs. Use a bright flashlight to inspect below and around the bottom, and/or run your hand around and under the base to see if you’re feeling the water.
Watch What You Send Down Your Garbage Disposal
A wonderful thing about summer is the freedom to cook our food outside whenever we wish. However, one thing to remember is that treats such as stone fruits, corncobs or rib bones barbecue should not be sent down the garbage disposal sink. It may be tempting, but these objects may end up blocking the flow of sewage causing a stinky backup that can ruin the summer fun early.
Replace Hoses Of Washing Machine
In the summer months, you may find yourself doing more laundry than normal. Inspect for bulges, leaks or cracks on your washing machine hoses and always remove the drier lint after each load. Make sure your machine is far enough away from the wall so that the hose doesn’t kink. In the end, a kinked hose can cause cracks and leaks in the hose. To avoid a plumbing emergency, replace your washing machine hose every three years as an extra precaution.
